I have a question for all of you that race and watch racing. It's sort of a 2 part question and please give me your thoughts on both. Would you race at a track that has steel guard rails and if so, do you feel safe doing it ?

The second part is, if you're spectating, do you feel safe behind these steel guard rails ? Thanks for your replies in advance.

Dan

Steel guardrails make good ramps if you hit em just right... Suspect

I don't think I would feel safe being a spectator and the little guard rail was the only thing keeping me safe from a 2500+lb vehicle going over 80 mph...

Good question Dan I always felt that drag racing is safer than a lot of motorsports because you are moving in one direction.Meaning if you do take a turn into the wall your momentum is still going straight. From the mishaps I have seen you are in the most danger going off the end of the track, down there your momentum is still with you full force. So as far as steel guardrails go anything that keeps you on the track is a big help. On the topic of spectating stay close to the starting line look out for flywheels, driveshafts, ujoints etc. down track where the cars get all their speed stay way back.
