I thought maybe some of you that have made the switch to E 85 might be interested in this article.

VP introduces new C85 racing fuel as alternative to E85

VP Racing Fuels has introduced “C85” racing fuel, offering significant performance gains over conventional E85 according to Jim Kelly, VP’s Director of Racing Fuel Sales.

“Conventional E85 gained some popularity because it was cheap and made some power, but it has a significant downside,” said Kelly. “In addition to requiring a costly E85 carburetor and completely revamped and upgraded fuel system, E85 is corrosive and very inconsistent.

“When you don’t know if you’re getting 60% ethanol, 80% ethanol or something else, it’s extremely difficult to tune,” Kelly continued.“Many engine builders have cited up to a two-jet swing in their tune from one batch of E85 to the next. By contrast, C85 is blended with the same degree of care and precision as every other VP fuel, with a consistent proportion of ethanol and every other component in every drum. It takes all the guesswork out of tuning.”

C85 will work well in drag racing, oval track, off road and virtually any other automotive racing application, in particular forced induction applications due to its lower vapor pressure. Tests of C85 indicate most applications will require richening up by one jet size, or 2-3% over current jetting.

Talking with Jeff Hann, who runs in the Mod class at PRP in his Camaro using E85, he's mentioned about buying the E85 in smaller quantities and the blend varying up to almost 90% Ethanol. This will be his second season using the E85 and he said he'll never go back to the expensive race fuel. Yes, it cost him to have the carb converted over and making sure all the fuel system components were Ethanol compatible, but he feels in the long run using the E85 is a cost savings. He pulled his motor this fall and said that the oil could probably have re-used again and the motor had no sludge and was clean. His advise, as well and some of the other racers, was to buy the fuel in 30 gallon or 55 gallon quantities and get the 85-15 ratio correct and then it's one less worry during the season.

Curious what the cost of the VP C85 is versus pump E85. I can't even find it on their website.
